2.1 Specific gravity
The larger the specific gravity of zirconia beads, the higher the grinding efficiency. High viscosity slurry should use beads with large specific gravity, such as grinding offset printing ink box inkjet ink, generally use Φ0.2-Φ0.8 zirconia beads.
2.2 Hardness
The hardness of zirconia beads is higher than that of the material. If you use Φ1.5 Y-TZP beads to grind α-Al2O3 powder, the bead loss is large and the grinding cost is high. Later, Al2O3 beads and ZTA beads were used respectively, and the effect was better. In addition, the grinding beads with high hardness also wear more on the contact parts of the equipment, but it can be optimized by adjusting the filling amount of the beads, the viscosity of the slurry, the flow rate and other parameters.
2.3 Materials
Try to choose beads with lower wear, which is not only related to the performance of the material itself, but also depends on the test conditions. The wear value provided by the ceramic bead supplier is generally regarded as the self-grinding wear value of the bead measured in the aqueous medium. If the hardness of the material is lower than that of the grinding bead, the wear value has a good correspondence with the actual wear value. It is recommended to measure the wear before using the bead to simulate the actual working conditions, so as to accurately select which bead to use.
2.4 Strength
The first condition for the successful application of zirconia beads is that they do not break during operation, which is especially important for high energy density paint grinders. The higher the flexural strength and toughness of the beads, the less likely they are to break. Zirconia beads are strength grinding media on the market.
